SHAN'S BIO
Shan Gao is a choreographer and teacher currently based in Beijing, China.
From 2001-2008 he attended the Beijing Dance Academy Secondary School (Ballet) and from 2008-2009 the Hong Kong Academy for Performing Arts with full scholarship. From 2009-2014 he attended Folkwang University of the Arts, graduating with a B.A. in Dance Studies in 2012 and with a M.A. in Dance Composition Interpretation in 2014.
He was the recipient of the second prize of KUK Award 2013 in Essen (Germany) and first prize of ilDance Choreography Competition 2013 in Gothenburg (Sweden) for his solo ‘A daydream enters the infinite darkness’. The piece was also presented at the internationale tanzmesse nrw 2016. In 2014, Shan was invited by Folkwang Kammerorchesters Essen & Der Reihe 638 Schritte Tanz to create a choreography.
His dance film ‘Fuss’ was selected as one of the finalists of ROLLOUT dance film festival 2016 in Macao.
Shan has also worked with choreographers such as Henrietta Horn, Urs Dietrich, Malou Airaudo, Rodolpho Leoni, Reinhild Hoffmann, Mandi Huo, Fang-Yu Shen, David Hernandez, Emanuel Gat, Moya Michael, Carla Jordao, Iker Arrue. He also danced in ‘Wind von West’ and ‘Le Sacre du printemps’ by Pina Bausch in the program ‘PINA40’ in 2013. Shan joined Folkwang Tanz Studio(FTS) in 2014 and has until now worked as a company dancer.
